Friday 15th November 2019 - SCHOOL OPEN

At 9pm Thursday almost all the surface water had gone from main routes around the school. The Hanley Road was open with no flooding. Only a small amount of rain is forecast overnight and during the day on Friday.

We appreciate that a small number of students and staff may have difficulties getting in to school, but transport routes for the vast majority of the school community will be fine. Please ensure that your route is safe.

It is possible that the Hanley Road may flood overnight but this is a regular occurrence and not a reason to close the school. If the Hanley Road does flood then the diversion via Welland and Hanley Swan will be used. Please allow plenty of time for your journey.

Monday 5th March 2018 - SCHOOL OPEN

Students travelling on buses should check the school website for any alterations to their routes caused by the closure of Old Street in Upton. This will continue for 2 weeks from 5th March.

There was an emergency closure of the school on Thursday 1st March due to loss of water supply. We were informed of this at 8.25am. We could not remain open without functioning toilet facilities or drinking water. We are grateful for the excellent support from bus companies and parents in returning students home safely.

School was closed on Friday 2nd March due to hazardous conditions on site and on the surrounding roads due to snow.

SCHOOL OPEN [Years 7-11 only] - Wednesday 13th December 2017

School will be OPEN for years 7-11, but CLOSED for all sixth form students. This is due to limited parking on site and potentially hazardous driving conditions in some areas.

Teachers, support staff, and some parents and students have worked hard all day to enable the site to be safely accessible. However, we need to manage the start and end of the day carefully to ensure safety. The road up into the village is not safe for parents to use.

Buses will run as normal.

PARENTS DROPPING STUDENTS BY CAR - Please do not drop children off before 9am, and use the bus bay. You must not attempt to drive up into the village. This is due to the road being even narrower than normal, ice in the staff car park and a fallen tree in the village.

If you are collecting your child by car at the end of the day please do so after 3.30pm from the bus bay. Do not come into the village or try to use the staff car park. Also, please do not park along the verge on the main road because this will cause a significant safety risk to other road users.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Thursday 13th and Friday 14th February 2014 - SCHOOL CLOSED

Following extensive advice from the Local Authority Transport Team we have decided to close the school for both Thursday and Friday.

Today (Wednesday) has been extremely difficult on the roads as river levels have risen and the region has been subjected to extreme weather conditions. Power has been lost in Welland, and the combination of water and wind has been treacherous.

We expect an improvement in the weather conditions tomorrow (Thursday), but the river level will continue to rise until this evening and is not expected to fall before the weekend. A weather front is due to arrive on Friday, bringing a severe storm.

Journeys to and from school would present a significant risk for students, parents and staff. We therefore feel that, with regret, closing the school is our only option.

Ski Trip

Despite the school closure and terrible weather, the ski trip will still proceed as planned. Please see the school website for final details and a kit list.

Tuesday 11 February 2014

Wednesday 12th February 2014 - SCHOOL CLOSED

Following extensive advice from the Local Authority Transport Team we have decided to close the school on Wednesday 12th February. This is due to serious concerns about the safety and viability of journeys to and from school.

Worcester Bridge will once again be closed from 10pm tonight (Tuesday). River levels will rise again and remain at peak levels until at least Thursday afternoon.

The A38 at Severn Stoke is likely to be closed from Wednesday afternoon / evening (or earlier).
In addition, 20mm of rainfall is expected during Wednesday and, unlike today, the weather is forecast to deteriorate during the day. We are expecting 60-70mph winds. These combined factors are likely to result in localised surface water problems due to saturated ground, and road blockages due to fallen trees and branches.

We therefore have significant concerns regarding the safety of students, parents and staff during their journeys, and have decided that whilst the opening of the school on Monday and Tuesday was the right decision, the risk is too great to open on Wednesday.
